KOLLAM: Mr N. Vinayakumaran Nair,  assistant commissioner of police with the hi-tech cell,  who allegedly misbehaved with a woman anchor at the international cyber security meeting held here on Friday, has been  transferred to the Armed Reserve camp in Thiruvananthapuram.    State police chief Loknath Behra took the action based on a preliminary report submitted  by Range IG Manoj Abraham on Monday. Kollam Rural SP Ajeetha Beegum has been asked to submit a detailed report on the issue.

The incident took place on  the first day of the cyber security meeting held at Raviz hotel here. “The ACP  unnecessarily interfered to instruct the woman who was anchoring cultural programmes  in the afternoon session. Mr Vinayakumaran Nair  also called the anchor at night  after collecting her mobile number during the event.  Action has been taken based on the information received by the department,”  Mr  Manoj Abraham told DC.   The officer was expelled from the venue after the anchor brought the issue to the notice of the organisers.

The ACP denied the allegations and said he was “surprised” to learn about it. “I am a responsible police officer. It was my duty to direct the anchor and call the next speaker on the stage II of the programme.  I had given her  in writing a speech to be delivered during the concluding ceremony as she was not confident enough to do it herself. I left the stage early and contacted her over phone to ask whether she had presented it or not. I did not do anything wrong,” Mr Vinayakumaran Nair told DC.
