District court extends Arshi Qureshi's custody
The accused are yet to reveal where the alleged converts were headed to.
Kochi: Ernakulam District Sessions Court on Monday extended the judicial custody of Arshi Qureshi and his aide Rizwan Khan. The police had sought more time to get leads in the case. The duo were arrested in connection with a case of forceful religious conversion after a complaint from the victim’s brother. The police is yet to find the details of Rizwan Khan’s stay in Kochi during 1990-2000.
The prosecution case is that Mumbai natives Arshi Qureshi and his aide Rizwan Khan forcefully converted a girl from Kochi for taking part in the activities of dreaded terrorist organisation, the Islamic State. The police submitted that evidence was collected to prove the conversion from Mumbai including the passports and bank account details. However the accused are yet to reveal where the alleged converts were headed to among other details.
The Kochi City Police had registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against Qureshi along with Palakkad-native Yahiya alias Bestin Vincent. The police had acted on a complaint by Ebin Jacob (25), brother of Merin, who is missing along with her husband Yahia, who gave a statement before the police that the duo forced Merin to get converted to Islam and join the terrorist organisation
