K S Bimal's loss will be felt strongly, says Ram Punyani
The untimely death of the former SFI central committee member was a hard blow to the left alternative movement
KOZHIKODE: Friends and colleagues of K.S. Bimal, the DYFI rebel leader who died of cancer, remembered him at a function held at Town Hall here on Monday. Delivering the keynote address, anti-Hindutva activist Ram Punyani said comrades like him were totally committed to the progressive movements. "In an era (where) Hindutva forces spread tentacles across and the country is facing a social transition, the demise of such individuals is a great loss to the polity," he said.
"With Modi in power, the RSS combine is on with its onslaught of democracy in many dubious ways." A drama also was staged after the commemoration programme. The untimely demise of the former SFI central committee member aged 39 in February last year was a hard blow to the left alternative movement.
The young leader dared to tread the path shown by the slain RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, strongly disagreeing with the CPM. A mass leader marked by exemplary organisational capacity and oratory skills, he was expelled from the CPM after he along with others publicly came out against the murder of Chandrasekharan in May 2012.
