Kerala High Court criticises feudal style of MBBS admissions
The admission process is a muddle here compared to other states.
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the Commissioner of Entrance Examination (CEE) to complete the admission process on August 31. Besides the fee of Rs 5 lakh fixed by the Justice R. Rajendra Babu Committee, candidates should furnish a bank guarantee or bond of Rs 6 lakh in favour of the CEE. The court wanted spot admissions conducted in the presence of the CEE and representatives of medical colleges on August 30 and 31 at the auditorium of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. “After these procedures, no seats would be left vacant,” the court held.
It observed that while a Left party was in power, the medical admissions are in a feudal style. The admission process is a muddle here compared to other states. The CEE violated all the apex court and high court orders. The court wanted to complete the first counselling on August 24 and the details of vacant seats notified on the CEE website and at all the medical colleges to help students with their options. The second counselling should be over by August 26 at 4 pm, and the next day, CEE should prepare the allotment list.
The CEE should function on August 28, a public holiday, to facilitate the admission from the list made on the previous day, the court said. Students should be given time until August 29, 4 pm, to complete their option registration. August 30 and 31 would be the dates for finishing the admission process through spot admission and after the procedures, no seats would be left vacant.
