Thieves not on Onam holiday
Cops ask people to get newspapers removed, deposit ornaments in locker.
Thiruvananthapuram: The city police has requested those going on vacation to take sufficient precaution against burglars who strike during Onam before venturing out of capital. City police commissioner P. Prakash has requested residents who plan to go out of station to ensure that newspapers in front of their houses were removed. “Please designate your neighbours to remove newspapers daily from premises. Deposit ornaments at bank lockers before going on vacation,” he said.
“Houses with CCTVs should ensure that cameras are kept running,” he added. The police, as usual, has directed residents to call up respective stations and give their addresses before venturing out of station. Residents associations were requested to circulate these information in the form of pamphlets or announcements. Stronger beat patrolling will be enforced to ensure an event free festival, a statement said.
Though, no burglary was reported in the city limits during last Onam, thefts were reported at fringe areas like Vellarada. House break attempts occurred at Nemom. “During all times of the year, house breaks happen at unoccupied houses. Since, city has been home to government servants and IT professionals, thieves obviously know this is a good time,” said a senior official.
