NSUI decries arrest of students on peaceful protest in JNTUH campus
Hyderabad: Around 50 members of NSUI, who were protesting in the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) campus, were detained by the police on Monday.
The activists were protesting against the institute’s decision to revoke rules that provided exemption of two subjects and grace marks for the 2018 engineering batch students. They alleged that they were illegally detained even though their protest was peaceful.
President of NSUI Telangana, Venkat Balmoor, said that due to change of rules, over 1,200 students had been affected. He said many of them had obtained jobs but were likely to fail the exams and lose their jobs. When they raised objections four days back, the JNTUH registrar had responded positively to their demands, he said.
However, on Monday when they reached the campus to protest, they were forcefully detained by the police and taken to Miyapur police station, from where they were later released.
