Hyderabad: Seven workers suffered burns following a major fire in Sridhara Laboratories Private Limited at Jeedimetla on Monday.

The fire broke out after a chemical reactor containing flammable solvents reacted with a blast condenser that was close by, V. Subash Reddy, Jeedimetla station fire officer (SFO) said.

The seven workers suffered burns due to the fire flash from the blast condenser when they were trying to escape, Subash said. A water tanker and five fire tenders were used to douse the flames in two hours.

The injured were shifted to a private hospital in Jeedimetla and are out of danger, K Goutham, Jeedimetla sub-inspector said.

Over 25 workers had come to the factory for morning shift when the fire broke down. The laboratory owner was identified as Ranga Reddy.

The injured were identified as N Laxman Naidu, Venkat Ram Reddy, Praveen Kumar, Krishna Reddy and Shankar Reddy, while two workers, who were admitted in a different hospital are yet to be identified.

Jeedimetla police registered a case of negligence against the laboratory owner and are investigating.
