Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Friday approved the medical admissions in three self- financing colleges in the state.  A detailed order approving the admissions will be issued only later. The court approved the MBBS admissions to  150 seats each in DM Wayanad Institute of Medical Sciences and  Mount Zion Medical College at  Adoor and 100 seats in Al Azhar Medical College at  Thodupuzha.

Justice S.A. Bobde, who heard the  arguments on the applications submitted by the colleges, said in his verbal order that the court was  approving the admissions not to put the future of the students at stake. The court criticised both the Medical Council of India and the college managements for troubling the students due to the tug of war between them.

Earlier,  the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Mishra had rejected the admissions for lack of MCI approval by invalidating the  order passed by the Kerala High Court  granting approval for the admissions. Following this, the managements filed a review petition. The state government had requested the Supreme Court not to take any stern steps so as to save the future of the students.
