Making RTC a robust entity is priority: Chairman Goverdhan
HYDERABAD: TSRTC chairman Baji Reddy Goverdhan, who completed one year in the job on Wednesday, spoke about his plans to make transport a robust organisation.
He said at a meeting with corporation vice-chairman and managing director V.C. Sajjanar and high-ranking officials that the corporation would purchase 300 electric buses. Under the ‘Bread Winner’ scheme, 168 persons who were next of kin of deceased RTC employees would be recruited.
Later, the chairman said told the media, “The corporation is now able to sustain financially. The Rs 1,036 crore losses as of August 2021 have come down to Rs 395 crore by August this year. This was possible with the collective efforts of the staff.”
On the Covid phase, he said, “The corporation had to incur losses in 2020 and 2021. The earlier daily earning through tickets of Rs 11 crore fell to Rs 3.5 crore per day. Presently the RTC is generating Rs 13 to 14 crore each day.”
Goverdhan said, "The pending benefits for the employees who had retired from services will be remitted during the year.
During the meeting five members received training letters under the ‘bread winner scheme’. Those who are eligible for getting employment as their elder had taken retirement on medical grounds, will be hired soon, he assured.
