Monsoon delay: Dry Deepavali next week
If weather predictions by Indian Meteorological Department are to be believed, monsoon is expected to set in only in the first week of November.
Chennai: It is going to be a dry Deepavali this year as weather experts confirmed the delay in the onset of northeast monsoon which usually sets in during the third week of October and accounts for about 48 per cent of the Tamil Nadu’s annual rainfall.
If weather predictions by Indian Meteorological Department are to be believed, monsoon is expected to set in only in the first week of November, thus resulting in a delay of more than 10 days.
Attributing the slowdown to the formation of depression at bay, director of Regional Meteorological Centre S. Balachandran said there is no conducive environment for the setting in of NE monsoon during Deepavali (October29-30).
The depression, which is all set to intensify into a deep depression, might turn into a cyclonic storm at Central Bay and move towards Myanmar in the next 48 hours. However, it will not influence any rainfall activity in the state, said weather blogger Pradeep John.
