Walkway around Akkulam lake to be completed soon

Thiruvananthapuram: The first council of the Akkulam destination management council held here decided to complete the walkway around the Akkulam Lake. The meeting held here on Thursday decided to complete the dredging work before September 2017. The government order entrusting Travancore cement with the dredging work will be issued soon. The meeting also decided to construct toilets in the upstream of the Akkulam Lake to ensure that it was not polluted.

The meeting decided to get the harbour engineering department to complete the brake water construction without delay and the National Highway Authority to complete the construction of the bridge over Akkulam Lake before January, 2017.
The sand collected through the dredging will be deposited at the site of the Akkulam convention centre. DTPC has been entrusted with the preparation of the master plan for the revival of the Akkulam tourist village.

They would have to establish adventure tourism projects, cycling facilities and restaurant in the village before March, 2017 through expressions of interest. The projects as per the master plan should be completed before August 2017. Collector S Venkateshapathi informed the meeting about the steps taken by the district administration to complete the survey of the region.
