Navy team to perform at SM Street

Republic Day to be a musical night for city residents.

KOZHIKODE: On Republic day, which falls on Friday, there will be a musical night at SM Street, with a big team of the Indian Navy performing in front of the SK Pottekkad statue. The Indian Navy musical team, who has so far only performed in big cities, will be performing for the first time for Kozhikode’s music buffs. Indian Navy officers will march to SM Street and set up their orchestra team. The show is from 6.30 to 8 pm.

“History will be created in Kozhikode, known for the best music lovers. After the Zamorin’s rule where the Nair, Muslim and British soldiers marched through the street, an Indian force will be marching here”, enthu-sed District Collector U.V. Jose. In addition to the Jazz- brass bands, students representing prominent city schools will host a march-past in sync with the western music.  The march past will begin at 6.30 pm starting from the SK Pottekkad statue to 400 meters inside the street. 

After completing the march-past, each team will showcase its performance at Mananchira Square for the public. Popular songs from Malayalam, English and Hindi will be incorporated in the show. NSS, NCC and SPC students in addition to the police officials have been deployed in order to control the crowd. The District Collector requested the public to cooperate with the organizers for the smooth conduct of the show. Captain Ramesh Babu, Thahasildar E Anithaku-mari, Assistant Commis-sioner Abdul Rasak and Binoy Venugopal were also present during the function, where the announcement of the event was made by District Collector on Tuesday at the Collectorate.
