Kerala Agricultural University library to be open for all

Thrissur: The Kerala Agricultural University central library will extend its services to non-KAU students, teachers, researchers, farmers and members of the public. The library is housed in a sprawling 4000-square metre building at KAU headquarters at Vellanikkara here. It coordinates KAU Library and Information System (KAULIS) and consists of the central library and six college libraries and research stations spread all over Kerala. The library with  modern facilities and resources is a treasure house of science books and journals, books on literature, entertainment and cinema as well as more than 3,000 online journals. Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar  will  inaugurate the library service extension and development of digital library and repository at 2 p.m.  on Saturday.  

Thereafter, the library will function from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m, including on second Saturdays and Sundays (up to 2 p.m.). The digital library comprises thousands of reference books, databases in economics, statistics, agriculture, biology, career, farming   and multimedia books.  The web catalogue of the books in the library and the details with abstracts of all theses in KAU can be searched  from anywhere in the world. The library system has evolved along with the growth of  information and communications technology  and the KAULIS has kept pace with the development, said KAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. P. Rajendran. ‘A click at KAU icon on the website (www.egranth.ac.in) leads to the e-library index,” he said.
