Thrissur: Thrissur Range IG M.R. Ajith Kumar on Thursday suspended additional SI of Pazhayannur Police Station for allegedly goofing up the case of abduction and assault of a student of Nehru College of Law at Lakkidi, in which the chairman of the Nehru Group P. Krishnadas is the main accused. The suspension is in light of the report of Crime Branch DySP Francis Shelbi which found fault with the ASI, Gnanaseelan, for not including non-bailable offences against Mr Krishnadas and other defendants in the case.

According to the complainant Shaheer Showkathali, he was forcefully taken out from Lakkidi law college of the group to Pampady where he was brutally assaulted by Mr Krishnadas and made to sign a statement. He said the Pazhayannur police had not properly recorded his statement and exempted him from non-bailable charges. While granting bail to Mr Krishnadas, High Court had found mismatches in the different statements collected from the victim and came down heavily on the police for charging the accused with non-bailable charges only after arresting them on Monday.
