Kollam: Over 600 participate in NCC 10-day camp

KOLLAM: Over 600 cadets from some 30 schools are participating in the annual 10-day camp of the ‘9 Kerala battalion’ of NCC Kottarakkara at the SMHS School, Patharam under commanding officer Col P.T. Rajeev.It is also a selection event for Thal Sainik Camp in Delhi and NCC national games. Apart from physical training, the camp also provides training sessions in yoga, personality development, and classes on national integrity.
“They got training in various faculties including shooting, made to follow strict discipline inside the camp to help mould their personalities. There are inter-school competitions, including in shooting, obstacle course, and other sports activities. They also get opportunities to nourish their arts flare at cultural events in an auditorium here,” Col Rajeev told DC. By 5 am, the cadets line up for their routine physical training drill and parade. Their parents and residents witness the parade and competitions. A day ends at 9 pm with cultural programmes. Lt Col Sajeev, Capt Sunil, Lt Baiju P. Jose, first officer Anilkumar, second officer Ajayakumar, third officers Rajani and Jayakumar, subedar major Augusty and other officers ensure its smooth conduct, to be concluded by April 30.
