Siblings die saving pet dog from drowning in Cauvery river
They were taking a bath when Jegatheeshwari first noticed her pet dog being washed away and rushed to rescue it, police said.
Erode: In a truly poignant but inexplicable tragedy, a brother-sister duo drowned in the Cauvery river near Modakurichi near here while rescuing their pet dog, Tommy, police said on Monday.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the two, in their 20s, part of a family of five members, had gone to the famous Nattatreeswaran (Lord Shiva) temple, located in the middle of the Cauvery river at Kangeyampalayam along with six of their friends, Police said. The names of the deceased brother-sister duo were given as Silambarasan and Jegatheeshwari.
They were taking a bath when Jegatheeshwari first noticed her pet dog being washed away and rushed to rescue it, police said. Though she, along with her brother Silambarasan, saved the animal and pushed it to the bank, they had accidentally stepped into the deep waters, carried away by the current and drowned, police added.
Their friends who noticed the two going down tried to save them, but failed. On information Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the scene and retrieved the bodies of Silambarasan and Jegatheeshwari. Investigation is on.
