KARIMNAGAR: Irrigation department officials successfully conducted the Malkapet reservoir trial run which was built with a capacity of 3 tmc of water under the package-9 of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) project in Malkapet village of Konaraopet mandal in Rajanna Sircilla district on Tuesday.

With orders from the IT minister and Sircilla MLA K.T. Rama Rao, officials accelerated the work by deploying additional labour and working day and night for the past week days, coordinating various departments, and completing the work by lifting the Godavari water into the reservoir at 7 a.m.

The activities were monitored by the Engineer-in-Chief N. Venkateshwarlu and lift irrigation advisor Penta Reddy, as well as representatives from the MRKR and WPL agencies, in accordance with the district collector Anurag Jayanti's instructions about the successful completion of the Malkapet reservoir trial run.

Srinivas Reddy, the executive engineer of the package-9 of the KLIS project, who coordinated the trail run, stated that with the completion of construction works on the Malkapet reservoir, water for irrigation needs will be supplied to around 60,000 acres of land, as well as the stabilisation of around 26,150 acres of ayacut land present under the reservoir.

The construction of Malkapet reservoir has solved the problems of farmers in two constituencies, Vemulawada and Sircilla, who were facing a severe shortage of water for irrigation purposes, and all of the barren land in the district will soon become fertile due to the Godavari water supply. The officials said that the inauguration ceremony for the Malkapet reservoir, constructed at a cost of '504 crore will take place shortly.
