Bengaluru: Carry service pistols or face disciplinary action, said city police commissioner N.S. Megharikh to his cops following the recent incidents of gang wars by rowdy elements who unleashed terror in the city with at least two murders reported in less than 36 hours besides a series of assaults including those on policemen.
Service pistols should be carried by every police officer starting from the rank of sub-inspector and above. Shootouts involving the police and rowdy elements are likely to increase in the days to come in order to control anti-social elements who resort to attacks using lethal weapons or firearms, sources from the police hinted.
The city top cop has also instructed his traffic and law and order personnel to keep a close watch on vehicles plying at nights without number plates/modified vehicles, riders who indulge in wheelies, drag racing and other traffic offences such as triple-riding and helmetless riding. Policemen have been instructed to book as many cases possible during the nights for such offences. Special drives will be conducted starting at 7 pm till 7 am. regularly to check irresponsible vehicle riders.
