THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI state council has decided to spare Peermedu MLA E.S. Bijimol of disciplinary action in connection with her “godfather” remark. The decision was taken after the panel examined the explanation and regret given by the legislator. Though there were reports that she might face mild disciplinary action, it decided otherwise after hearing her version.
Ms Bijimol had expressed regret over “godfather” remark made during an interview with a magazine indirectly criticising the state leadership for not considering her for a Cabinet berth this time. She had also made it clear that the magazine had not reproduced what she expressed. Many of the things expressed in an informal manner were included in the published interview.
CPI state executive had earlier issued a show cause notice to Bijimol for making anti-party remarks in the interview. Meanwhile, the state council has decided to organise protests across the state on August 22 against price rise and Centre's decision to allow 100 percent foreign investment in nine core sectors and to sell off the shares of public sectors units. The council also decided to observe evening dharnas in all Assembly segments on that day.
