Vallabhaneni wins gold in rifle-shooting event

Vijayawada: Rifles Association of Andhra Pradesh (RAAP), in association with National Rifle Association of India has distributed prizes to the 61 winners of XVIII Andhra Pradesh State Shooting Competition-2017 held at Hyderabad. 

Vijayawada police commissioner Damodar Gautam Sawang and Member of Parliament Gokaraju Gangaraju distributed the prizes to the winners at a ceremony held in city on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Sawang  said that there was a huge need for encouraging rifle shooting and he stressed on need to construct shooting range in Andhra Pradesh. Youth in 1990’s were much interested in this sport and awareness on using the weapon will be developed with this, he added.

RAAP senior vice-president G.V. Ranga Raju said that the association is conducting shooting competitions for the past 17 years. Many ace shooters have developed with the encouragement of RAAP and will focus on shining rural talent, he added.

The competitions were held in 10 Meter Air Rifle/pistol, 25 Meters Pistol, 50 Meters Rifle and Pistol and Shotgun events and Rajendra Prasad Vallabhaneni won gold medal for the third time with 56 points.
