Rich Tributes Paid to Oommen Chandy
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday hailed late Oommen Chandy as an able administrator and a good leader.
Speaking at the remembrance meeting organised by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee in memory of Chandy here, the chief minister said the veteran leader’s death was a big loss for the Congress and the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala. He said Chandy had carved a special place in Kerala's political landscape through his relentless work right from the student days.
PCC president K Sudhakaran said no other Congress leader had been hounded by opposition to the manner in which Chandy was targeted. He was indirectly referring to the solar scam which was used by the CPM led opposition LDF to attack Chandy.
Later the courts had cleared the former chief minister of all the charges.
A host of prominent personalities from the political, social, cultural, and religious spheres paid rich tributes to Oommen Chandy at the memorial meet held at Ayyankali Hall.
The former chief minister's son Chandy Oommen attended the meet on behalf of the family.
