August rainfall way short of normal in Telangana

The rise in temperatures accompanied by dry winds come in the middle of the monsoons, the first phase of which was largely bountiful.

Hyderabad: If Telangana receives no rain in the next seven days, August will have received the least rains in the mid-monsoon months. Hyderabad, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts have received negative rainfall this month. In fact, Hyderabad district has received less than a centimeter of rain in August.

The city received rains only in the first five days of the month. Likewise, the entire state is also far behind from meeting its average rainfall mark for the month.

A local weather bureau official said, “The average rainfall for Hyderabad in August is 19 cm, however since the start of the month the city has received only 2 cm of rainfall. August 13 was the last day that the city received rains. It has been dry for the last 10 days. The temperatures have been rising.”

Tuesday’s maximum was 34.2ºC, which is 4.2ºC above normal. The IMD’s forecast till August 29 is cloudy skies with possibilities of rain, thunderstorm or dust storms.
