Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday stayed the bailable warrant issued by a single judge against nominated Anglo-India MLA  Elvis Stephenson, who is complainant in the cash-for-vote case.

A division bench including Justice V Ramasubramanian  was dealing with Stephenson petition challenging the order of the single judge in issuing the warrant through which it had been directed to the Hyderabad city police commissioner to arrest him and release him on a personal bond of Rs 1lakh and produce him before the court on September 30.

G Vidyasagar, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, told the court that the petitioner had filed a petition before the single judge seeking to recuse him from hearing a quash petition by Jerusalem Mathaiah, one of the alleged accused in the case.

While dismissing the recuse petition, the judge directed the initiation of action under the contempt of court act after having obtained a permission from the chief justice, if necessary.
