HYDERABAD: The Union government has ordered a survey for laying new railway lines in Telangana. The regional rail road, which will come up in conjunction with the regional ring road, will be a game-changer for Hyderabad, said Union minister G. Kishan Reddy here on Sunday.

He was speaking at the Kacheguda railway station during the virtual inauguration of the Vande Bharat Express to Bengaluru by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that Modi would visit the state on October 1 to lay the foundation stone for several railway projects.

In the last nine and half years, the government has laid 55 km of railway lines. Telangana is getting more importance considering the low coverage it has had so far. While the UPA government had allocated Rs 258 crore for railways in 2014, the NDA government has granted Rs 4,418 crore for this year, he said.

The Secunderabad railway station to which Rs 717 crore was allocated will look like the Hyderabad airport once completed, he said.

Modernisation work is going on at the Nampally and Kachiguda railway stations and a new terminal will be built in Cherlapally at a cost of Rs 221 crore. Works for the Kazipet railway manufacturing unit are progressing at a brisk fast pace, the minister added.
