Chennai: “We collected over Rs 13 crore from the star cricket tournament on April 17. And we have the accounts for spending on even a stapler pin,” said Nadigar Sangam president Nasser.

“Out of the money we realised from selling the telecast rights to Sun TV, sale of tickets and other promos, we returned Rs 2.5 crore taken as loan for paying back Satyam Cinema when the agreement made by the previous team (relating to the Sangam property) was withdrawn. About Rs 50 lakh was spent on various expenses connected with the tournament, which saw participation by several film personalities from other states,”  Nasser told DC.

He said his team had been “extremely careful and transparent even from the very start” when the idea cropped up to hold a star cricket tournament for raising funds for the building project.
