Hyderabad: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has extended exemptions and concessions for students with visual, speech, hearing, physical challenges and dyslexia.

The board has instructed principals of all junior and composite engineering colleges to follow the procedure for processing the exemptions to the candidates.

The board instructed the principals of junior colleges which are run for challenged candidates to send proposals to it through district Intermediate education officer.

Principals have been advised to upload online the certificates issued by the medical board during the time of payment of examination fees.

Students with visual disabilities are exempted from paying the examination fees. They should be provided 30 minutes extra time during the exam. There is also a reduction of jumbling system along with a facility of scribe and reduction of pass marks from 35 per cent to 25 per cent for all subjects. Students with dyslexia will get 60 minutes extra.

Dr P. Madhusudhan Reddy, president, Government Junior Lecturers Associations, said, “Most of the challenged candidates are not aware of these exemptions and do not avail them. Even officials do not extend the exemptions. We demand that they be strictly implemented in junior colleges.”
