Fewer bus shelters at Charminar

HYDERABAD: Commuters at the Charminar bus stand, which runs 60 services to various areas in the city, are facing problems due to lack of adequate bus shelters. It is a major bus terminal from where thousands of people catch their bus. “People get drenched when there are sudden showers. Men somehow rush out to take shelter at nearby shops,” said Ms Shazia, a student from the Charminar Tibbi Hospital.
“A lot of water gets stagnated in the bus stand whenever it rains. There are no facilities for drinking water either,” said Mr Mahmood Khan, a commuter who regularly takes bus. Asked about the problems, an TSRTC officials said the bus stand was handed over the GHMC for construction of a multi-level parking complex. “We have informed the GHMC about the problems being faced by the commuters not only at the Charminar bus stand but also at other bus stops,” said the official. He said the RTC gets the rain water cleaned regularly to avoid inundation of the bus stand.
