Hyderabad: A seven-year-old student fainted after he and four other students were reportedly made to stand in the heat by the MGM School in Srinagar colony on Monday for not paying their examination fees. The half yearly exams began on Monday and the students were not allowed to write the exam.

The students were made to stand in the sun for more than an hour and their parents were notified only after Manu Prasad, a Class-II student, fainted. The parents of the children immediately came to the school and demanded an explanation.

“They did not let my son write the exam and instead made him stand out. It is a matter of just Rs 250. What if a student’s parent was out of station? It is the first day of the exam and young students can forget to inform their parents so a leeway of at least one day should have been given,” says Manu Prasad’s father.
Manu’s mother stated that at such a young age, such severe punishment should not be meted out by schools. The school has denied the parents’ allegations.

Nalini P, the manager of the school, said, “These are all baseless allegations. Our assembly was held till 10:15 am and the exam was scheduled to begin at 10:30 am.

“The 15 minutes is allotted to students to keep their bags out and prepare for the exam. We had called the defaulting parents and asked them to come in that same window period and they all paid the fee then.”
