The CCB also wants to know the role of T. R. Pachamuthu, chancellor of SRM University, in the scam and activities of Vendhar Movies.
Chennai: The Central Crime Branch, Chennai, has informed a city court that S. Madhan of Vendhar Movies, arrested in the medical seat scam involving Rs 84.27 crore collected from 123 aspirants, has produced a Tamil film starred by Raghava Lawrence in the lead role, while he remained to abscond.
When the custody petition filed by CCB came up for hearing before the XI metropolitan magistrate court, Saidapet, on Wednesday, the assistant public prosecutor for CCB, S.Manual Arasu has informed this before the court. He said that while Madhan was on the run he purchased two houses in Chennai, properties in Roorkee, Uttarakhand and Varanasi (Kasi), Uttar Pradesh. Madhan also produced a Tamil film, Motta Siva and Ketta Siva, starring actor Raghava Lawrence and others. The film would hit the silver screen shortly.
PP sought police custody of Madhan for 10 days since he was the prime accused in the case and cheated over 123 persons assuring medical seats to UG and PG medical course aspirants. He duped them over Rs 84.27 crore assuring medical seats.
The CCB also wants to know the role of T. R. Pachamuthu, chancellor of SRM University, in the scam and activities of Vendhar Movies. As Madhan remained to abscond for six months, the CCB required to investigate the persons who assisted him during the period and collect documents from the places he visited. APP said immediately after arresting Madhan was detained at the prison. Hence, he sought 10 days police custody for the accused.
While opposing this, counsel for Madhan stated that the police have all the details and documents. Hence, two days police custody was sufficient. However, APP replied that CCB required to collect, documents from many states. Hence, prosecution requires 10-days custody.
Granting 7-days police custody for Madhan, the court directed the police to produce him before the court on 29 November at 5.30 pm. The court also permitted the police to escort him to other places in Tamil Nadu and other states to collect evidence. Meanwhile, Madhan, who was produced before the court, has filed a bail petition before the court. His wife was also present in the court.
