ED questions Kerala businessman

A special team from Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi has been questioning Mr Thampi for the past couple of days in Chennai, sources said.

Earlier the ED had attached properties worth Rs 539 crore of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy and those valued at Rs 325 crore belonging to Mr Prasad in the same case.

Chennai: C.C. Thampi, a well-known businessman from Kerala, who has varied business interests in Gulf countries, was questioned by sleuths from Enforcement Directorate, sources said here.  

A special team from Enforcement Directorate in New Delhi has been questioning Mr Thampi for the past couple of days in Chennai, sources said. “He was let off Friday evening after detailed questioning,” a source said, adding that he might be called for further questioning.

The sources noted that his questioning has nothing to with demonetisation. His links with certain politicians from Delhi and Kerala is reportedly under scanner and the ED sleuths are probing any possible money laundering by those political leaders through him.

Thampi, a native of Thrissur in Kerala, started his  business in Gulf in 1984. He is currently into hospitality and construction business in Kerala and Gulf.
