Kakinada: All parties, including CPM, CPI, Telugu Desam, Congress and BSP, have decided to render support to advocates, who are protesting against the AP Land Titling Act.

As part of their protest, these lawyers have been boycotting courts and staging protests, demanding that the state government abolish the new act.

All India Lawyers Union (AILU) organised a round-table meeting with all the opposition parties at the UTF Home here on Sunday. After hearing the advocates, various party leaders said expressed their solidarity with the next lawyers’ stir on Tuesday, December 26.

The opposition parties said in case the state government does not act on the issue, they too will start participating in the agitation from January 2.

CPM senior leader Duvva Seshu Babji said the agitators should create awareness among common people about AP Land Titling Act by distributing pamphlets.

AILU district president Medapati Dharma Reddy explained that the government brought the law into force from October 31 through G.O. No. 512. It brings about radical changes in the ownership of land rights. Land Titling Authority has been given full powers to decide on the ownership of lands. He maintained that land disputes have so far been resolved through civil courts. But now, the matter will be decided by officials, who can be influenced by political leaders.

Woman advocate K. Naga Jyothi said it is inappropriate to remove powers of the judiciary in the law and let only officials decide on the matter.

AILU district general secretary G. Bhaskaracharya, state committee members A.K.N. Malleswara Rao and R.G.V. Patnaik, Kakinada Bar Association general secretary Chekka Srinivas, Republican Party of India (Ambedkar)’s Pitta Vara Prasad, RCPI leader S. Satish, AP Rythu Sangham district president Tirumalasetty Nageswara Rao, BSP senior leader Chollangi Venu Gopal and TD leader G. Saibabu were present.
