Visakhapatnam: Christmas fervour is peaking in churches across Visakhapatnam’s landscape. Churches have been illuminated for the onset of joyful celebrations. Traditional carol singing, house visits and crib-making competitions are going on.

Adorned with vibrant decorations, churches of all sizes across Vizag have transformed into festive wonderlands, shimmering with electric lamps and radiant stars. This breath-taking ambiance will witness a surge of worshipers at the churches on Christmas on Monday.

Expectations are high at renowned churches like Quirk Memorial Baptist Church, St. Anthony Church and Union Chapel Church, located in different parts of the city.

Among Vizag's iconic landmarks is the over 180-year-old St. Paul’s Church, a beacon of tradition amidst the city's modernity. Its pristine white structure is sparkling with Christmas trees and Santa Claus theme. The crib, symbolising the birth of Jesus Christ, has taken centre stage, captivating admiration.

Senior pastor Nelson Wesley, in conversation with Deccan Chronicle, emphasised the significance of Christmas—the divine gift of God's only son—and the community's responsibility to support those in need.

He said the church will have services at 7:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. With the re-emergence of Covid-19 in Visakhapatnam, the pastor has asked everyone to wear a mask during the services at the church.
