CPI to focus on local body meetings
Earlier, the party had held a state level meeting of local bodies representatives to discuss the issues related to decentralisation.
THIRUVANANTHPURAM: The CPI state executive meeting here on Friday decided to hold meetings of party’s local bodies elected representatives at the district level. The proposed meetings are aimed at strengthening and increasing the participation of elected representatives in local bodies for implementation of people’s plan programme. Earlier, the party had held a state level meeting of local bodies representatives to discuss the issues related to decentralisation.
The meeting reviewed the situation in cashew sector and urged the government to take immediate steps for opening the shut cashew factories. The party affiliated cashew workers union had held a massive protest in front of the Secretariat here the other day. At the meeting, members felt that the LDF should come out with the industrial, labour and liquor policies at the earliest to implement programmes and schemes in these sectors effectively.
The leaders informed the meeting that the LDF was in the process of finalising these policies. The kidnapping and horrific attack on actor, moral policing and atrocities against women and children also came up for discussions. Many felt that the government should utilise the opportunity to bring about a comprehensive cinema policy.
