Hyderabad: Four killed as bus hits truck
Police said the RTC bus was going to Vijayawada with 39 passengers.
Hyderabad: In a major mishap on NH 65 four bus passengers were killed in an accident in Nalgonda district when the bus rammed into a truck moving ahead of it. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Friday.
Police said the RTC bus was going to Vijayawada with 39 passengers. As the bus was passing through a flyover in Aitipamula village in Nalgonda district, the driver of the truck ahead applied sudden brakes.
The bus driver could not control his vehicle and rammed into the truck. As the bus was moving at high speed and as the road had an incline, the bus penetrated almost half of the truck.
The truck was carrying food containers and had four drums of Carbo Acetic acid of 100 litres each. Due to the crash the acid spilled on the bus passengers. Thick smoke engulfed the two vehicles and spread in the surroundings making rescue difficult.
A passenger named V. Ganesh died on the spot while bus driver Y. Satyanarayana, B. Suresh and G. Susheela died later. Police registered a case against the truck driver.
“We will know if anybody died in the acid leak after the autopsy report comes. We are sending samples to the forensic lab and to the Pollution Control Board to check whether the chemical is hazardous and the truck is permitted to transport it,” said Nakirekal Rural inspector A. Vishwaprasad.
