Constable performs timely CPR and saves pedestrian\'s life

HYDERABAD: Rajendranagar traffic constable D. Rajashekar saved the life of a pedestrian who had collapsed on the road at Aramghar on Thursday afternoon by providing him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Videos of Rajeshekar helping the survivor, Balraj, went viral and appreciation poured in for Rajashekar.

Rajashekar said that at about 3.30 pm, he noticed a man suddenly collapse on the roadside. He rushed to the man and checked his pulse and breathing and tried to revive him. “I understood something was not right and started CPR on him. After a few minutes, he showed some signs of life and started vomiting some phlegm- substance. I cleaned him and continued CPR. We then hired an autorickshaw and shifted him to the hospital,” Rajashekar told Deccan Chronicle.

The survivor, Balraj, in his late 30s, a resident of LB Nagar, had come to Aramghar to attend a function. He was walking to the bus stop afterwards when he collapsed. Balraj was recovering in the hospital, police said.

Minister T. Harish Rao lauded Rajashekar and said on Twitter: “Telangana Govt will conduct CPR training to all frontline employees & workers next week in view of increasing reports of such incidents.” Cyberabad police commissioner M. Stephen Ravindra felicitated Rajashekar and gave him a cash reward.

DGP Anjani Kumar in a tweet said, “The unwavering commitment towards the public! The exceptional actions of Cyberabad Traffic Police Constable Rajasheker of Rajendranagar PS, and his swift & effective administration of CPR saved the life in a critical situation. I appreciate Rajasheker's bravery.
