Anantapur: The sarpanch of a gram panchayat suffered injuries when crude bombs exploded at his old house in Sivapuram under Kanaganipalli police station limits in the district on Thursday.
Sources said that M. Narasimhulu, elected sarpanch of Sivapuram with the support of YSR Congress in recent gram panchayat elections, planned to construct a new house by demolishing the old unused one in the village.
Accordingly the walls and roof were brought down to level the site. On Thursday, Narasimhulu who was at the old house to execute works suffered serious injury when a crude bomb exploded at the site. The explosion created a big sound causing panic among the villagers.
People rushed to the spot and discovered the injured sarpanch. He was immediately rushed to general hospital at Anantapur. Dharmavaram DSP K. Venugopal and his staff reached the village and began investigations.
Villagers felt that crude bombs were kept at the old unused house a decade ago probably due to faction rivalry in the village. The crude bomb exploded during demolition and removal of debris.
