Collector U V Jose for fine on illegal flexes
Drive to curb boards fails to yield results.
KOZHIKODE: Despite efforts by district administration and the city police to curb the increasing number of illegal flex boards appearing on roadsides obstructing the free flow of traffic as well as movement of pedestrians, such boards keep coming up even on main roads. Now, the district collector has said that soon they would be implementing fines on the violators. A week ago, the district administration had started a crackdown on the flex boards and they were immediately removed from the roadsides. The public is also encouraged to inform the district administration on the same. However, the new ones keep propping up in their place.
"A tough crackdown is going on against the flex boards and other sign boards that are placed illegally on roadsides, obstructing traffic. In future, the district administration is planning to introduce fines on the violators," said district collector U.V. Jose. However, Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that crackdown on the violators becomes tough, when the officials as well as the violators are equally aware of the dangers of such boards. "It is not out of ignorance that many of the violators are placing the huge boards. Awareness becomes tough when political parties are involved," said the mayor.
