Bengaluru: If Bengaluru felt like a cauldron on Sunday, you were right, as the city recorded an all-time high of 39.2 degrees Celsius.

The highest ever maximum temperature at 38.3 degrees Celsius for the city was recorded in April 30, 1931. Officials from the Met Department said that the delay in formation of clouds and rainfall has kept the mercury high this summer. The other possible reasons could be the second-year drought and El Nino effect over the country, they said. But experts blamed reducing green cover and increasing number of concrete structures and vehicles for the increasing temperature. “The city is witnessing the urban heat island phenomenon, which is pushing temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius,” they said.

The Met Department said that over the next 48 hours, the city will have mainly clear skies and the maximum and minimum temperatures will be to be around 38 and 24 degrees Celsius.
