Hyderabad: Water Board officials of Kukatpally division are preparing the ground for laying of pipelines to seven colonies that haven’t had drinking water supply since decades. The Water Board officials estimate that as many as 7,852 households will benefit from the project. The work will be taken up with Rs 290 crore from HUDCO. Once completed, it will supply water to Manasarovar Heights in Hasmathpet in  the posh area of Raghavendra Society in Moosapet and Khaitalapur, apart from JNNURM Colony, Ambedkarnagar and Gouthamnagar near Hydernagar.

An official from the projects wing of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) said that about 10.5 km of pipeline laying work has been completed till date and the Board is ready to supply water to Raghavendra Society, Ambedkarnagar and JNNURM Colony. “Higher officials including projects director M. Yella Swamy and HMWSSB MD M. Dana Kishore, besides minister K.T. Rama Rao are frequently inspecting the work and monitoring its progress every day. We are getting ready for laying of pipelines to all the seven colonies. We are accepting applications from the residents for new tap connections by making door-to-door visits,” the official said.

Another official from Kukatpally section said that the government is concentrating on colonies that do not have piped water supply. “We give new connections to such colonies on priority basis. Completion of the ongoing new reservoirs will assist us in sanctioning more connections in old colonies having proper pipe-lines,” the official said. K. Rajeswar from Raghavendra Society said that the owners had earlier paid 30 per cent of the cost of laying of the new pipelines and had been waiting for action from the Water Board. “Now, the proposed new reservoirs will help us get water connections. Property owners are suffering as tenants shy away due to lack of water supply. Officials are making door-to-door visits and taking details of owners and accepting applications. Based on the plinth area of houses, they are providing '1 connections and other categories,” he said.
