KOZHIKODE: The Social Justice department has sanctioned a proposal by the Kozhikode District Child Protection office to offer classes for politicians on child rights. The two-days classes will be held in the city and Vadakara, with the help of resource persons, according to the office of the DCPO. The classes are envisioned in such a way that local politicians would be sensitised about child rights issues in society and be made aware of what steps needs to be taken immediately after a case of abuse.  According to officials, politicians are among those who get information early and decide the plight of the case.

“Two-day training programmes have been planned for a batch of 60 each from the city and Vadakara. The classes are mainly for the men, who are actively involved in the activities of their respective area. They have more influence in their native place and once they know about the complications involved, they would be in a better position to deal with issues,” said DCPO Sheeba Mumtaz C.K. The training programmes would include introduction to child rights, child protection laws and services. The sensitisation programme would be introduced in light of the recent increase in the number of crimes against children, especially sexual harassment and moves to cover up the issue before the investigation team.
