KOZHIKODE: The city dwellers can now withdraw money from their postal savings account without waiting in the queue. The postal department has installed ATMs  at the head post office near Mananchira and  civil station post office. Kozhikode Collector N. Prasanth inaugurated the ATM at civil station on Tuesday.

One more ATM will come up at Kalpetta soon  as part of the government decision to establish 1,000 ATMs across the country. The Kerala circle of India Post has been allotted  56 ATMs and the facility has already been implemented in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Thrissur.

The post offices will also issue ATM debit card to the customers which can be used from anywhere in India. Once the core banking solution (CBS) is implemented, the India Post card can be used from any ATM in the country. A top official of India Post told DC  that the modernisation of the department would bring people closer to it.

“At a time when people are going away from the postal department, introducing a wide range of services using the latest technology will help attract them,” he  said. India Post is implementing CBS system in the state at a fast pace.

The sub-post offices in the state are also being upgraded to branch offices and computerised for better customer service. “The amount disbursed for various government schemes can soon reach  the person without delay once the process is over,” said the official.
