Governor opens radiotherapy at Nellore Cancer Hospital

Harichandan expressed happiness over sanction of ₹3 crore by central government for installing a cobalt unit for providing radiotherapy

NELLORE: AP Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan inaugurated the newly constructed Radiotherapy Block II of Indian Red Cross Society Cancer Hospital in Nellore on Tuesday.

“I am happy to know that this building will be utilised to install the Linear Accelerator machine and CT scan used for treatment and detection of cancer,” he stated. 

The Governor appreciated that with 128 beds, the hospital is providing services in surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology, including brachytherapy to cancer patients of Nellore, Chittoor, Kadapa and Prakasam districts.

Harichandan expressed happiness over sanction of ₹3 crore by central government for installing a cobalt unit for providing radiotherapy. The same had been inaugurated by former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in 2006.

Collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, joint collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, SP Ch. Vijaya Babu, and Red Cross Nellore unit chairman P. Chandrasekhar Reddy were among those present.
