My aim is to become grand master: Sports quota topper
The single window counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) began with sports counselling on Friday.
Chennai: Young chess champion and aspiring grand master V. Varshini secured top rank under the sports category with 1,140 points and got a seat in the prestigious College of Engineering, Guindy in Anna University.
The single window counselling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) began with sports counselling on Friday. Varshini from Vellammal matric higher secondary school came first in the sports category.
She won the gold medal in Commonwealth games in under-16 category and a
bronze medal in the under-18 category. She also won two national titles in under-17 category in chess. Even for sports counselling on Friday, she didn't appear in person as she was busy with the national women challengers' chess championship in the city. Her father S.Velavan who is also chess in charge of her school came and collected the allotment letter.
She told Deccan Chronicle, “My school gave me freedom to concentrate on chess tournaments. I attended plus two classes only in the month of January. My aim is to become the grand master. I also wanted to focus on my studies.”
