Employ temporary hands for cleaning: Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac
Dr Isaac suggested that wards should be classified according to the hygienic conditions and the worst should have more cleaning workers.
Kochi: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has directed the Kochi Corporation to hire enough temporary staff for waste removal and monsoon cleaning in the 71 divisions of the corporation to contain the fever outbreak in the city. The minister gave the permission when Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain met him on Saturday seeking audit clearance for appointing two temporary staff each for monsoon cleaning and waste removal.
Stating that the corporation can hire as many people as possible on a temporary basis, the minister called for undertaking waste removal on a war-footing at least until the rains. “There should not be any lapse in this regard,” he said. Dr Isaac suggested that wards should be classified according to the hygienic conditions and the worst should have more cleaning workers. The councillor should lead the cleaning squad in every division. He also promised to convene a meeting of the representatives of the people on the functioning of the Brahmapuram plant.
