Bengaluru: Cops shoot, arrest teen robber
After nine cases of robbery were reported within a few days, teams were formed to track the robbers.
Bengaluru: A 19-year-old youth involved in robberies was shot at and arrested by the Byatrayanapura police when he attacked a policeman trying to evade arrest. The accused, Rahul alias Govind, a resident of Mudlapalya, attacked a police constable with a machete when the police team tried to arrest him.
The police said that Rahul along with his partners was threatening and robbing pedestrians of their valuables at nights in Byatrayanapura and Chamarajpete police limits.
After nine cases of robbery were reported within a few days, teams were formed to track the robbers. Around 6 am on Monday, the police got a tipoff about Rahul's movement near an under-construction building in Chikka Basti in Jnana Bharathi police limits. The team rushed to the spot.
As soon as Rahul saw the police him, he tried to flee but was confronted by Constable Prakash. In a bid to escape, Rahul attacked him with a machete. Byatarayanapura Inspector Virendra Prasad shot at his leg.
Both Rahul and the Constable Prakash were rushed to a hospital for treatment. During the investigation, the police found that Rahul was involved in 11 cases of robbery and assault in Byatrayanapura and Chamrajpet police limits.
