KOZHIKODE: The Pareeksha Bhavan staff of Calicut University decided to forgo their weekend holiday for cleaning up the campus. On Sunday, over 50 staff of the Examination wing, under the leadership of Controller of Examinations Dr V.V. George Kutty, assembled at the campus and cleaned the premises from 9 am to 5pm. The staff removed waste, cleaned the seats for students, cleared the drainage and filled the pits in the campus during the cleaning drive.
The drive was carried out in the light of NAAC visit scheduled to be held next week and also to prevent the spread of communicable diseases like cholera, dengue etc, said one of the staff members. Speaking to this paper, Mr Kutty said that entire staff of the Pareeksha Bhavan wholeheartedly participated in the drive.
“The idea was presented on Saturday before the staff and all of them agreed to take part in the drive. “Even those who reside at distant places participated in the programme and we hope that this will create a model for others to follow and thus making the campus a better place,” he said.
He said that staff, cutting across party lines joined hands for a common cause. The staff were served with tapioca and fish curry by Controller of Examination's wife Jessy for lunch. Deputy Registrars M.K. Pramod, Mammed Kutty and Velayudhan Kalleppurath led the cleanliness drive.
