Demand to build temple on SVU campus
Students allege file is pending with TTD chief engineer Chandrasekhar Reddy.
TIRUPATI: Students of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) are irked by the negligence shown in construction of the Srivari temple on the university campus. The TTD had sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for the temple of lord Venkateswara on the campus. Students of the university had been demanding the construction of the temple for the last eight years. TTD chairman at that time Chadalavada Krishnamurthy laid the foundation stone on April 26 this year. But even after nearly three months, there is no development.
Students point out that Yogi Vemana University has Vemana statue, Padmavathi University has Padmavathi statue and Srikrishna Devaraya University has its own but SVU does not have any. Speaking to this newspaper, ABVP SVU leader P. Narayana said, “The file is pending with TTD chief engineer Chandrasekhar Reddy. We approached him many times. He is neglecting the work at the university. Most of the students' wings are with us.”
“We will launch a protest at the TTD administrative building if they delay the work too long,” M. Chamundeswari Rao, a student from SVU said. “Former executive officer D. Sambasiva Rao had the issue in his notice. But, the TTD engineering department is not taking up the issue with new EO Anil Kumar Singhal. We went to Vijayawada for getting ratifications from endowments department. We did their job, even then they are delaying it,” he added.
“Our university is built on TTD land. TTD pays nearly '2 crore per annum for development of the university. The problem may be solved if the issue is taken to the notice of the executive officer. We all are blessed to get seats in SVU. We are demanding a quick start of work or will show our strength very soon,” said B. Manikanta, a student from the SV university.
