Malappuram: Muslim Students Federation march turns violent; 11 held

The police, however, released five activists while arrest of 11 persons was recorded.

MALAPPURAM: As many as 30 activists were injured and 11 others arrested after a protest march conducted by Muslim Students Federation (MSF) turned violent on Monday. The police resorted to lathi charge when the protesters started pelting stones at  police deployed in front of the civil station in Malappuram town. Protesters demanded immediate steps be taken to allow adequate number of Plus Two seats for thousands of students in the district.

Following  the arrest of the student activists, Muslim League MLAs led by P. Ubaidullah, Abid Hussain Thangal, P. Abdul Hameed, M. Ummer and T. V. Ibrahim visited  Malappuram police station demanding immediate release of the students. The police, however, released five activists while arrest of 11 persons was recorded. The arrested were produced before a local court.
