Police sources said that relationship issues could have driven the girl to take this extreme step.

Chennai: The city police booked three persons on Wednesday including Goondas Act detenue and historysheeter ‘Kundrathur’ Vairam aka Vairamuthu for allegedly threatening actress Radha over the phone for being friendly with a married man. The other two arrested are Radha’s estranged husband Fizal and Radha’s friend Munivel’s spouse Umadevi aka Uma Kamakshi.

Radha, who starred in the romantic comedy Sundara Travels, had filed a petition before Police Commissioner T.K. Rajendran on Monday citing that she was intimidated by the prisoner who reportedly called her from Puzhal. Vairam had threatened her and suggested to her to sever ties with her childhood friend Munivel.  The actress had also submitted audio clips as proof of the conversation she had had with Vairam.

Two counter complaints, which were also filed, are yet to be acted upon.  Umadevi, in her complaint, said she was worried about the affair between her husband Munivel and the actress.  The woman claimed she had already filed two complaints with the city police and both were closed after Munivel and Radha assured they would mend their ways. "I have started getting threat messages purporting that I was in a relationship with another man," Umadevi said.

The other complaint was lodged by Vairam's wife Leena blaming Radha for having orchestrated canards about the former's husband lodged in Puzhal Prison.

Asked whether any prima facie case was made out in Radha's complaint, the cops maintained that they had sent the voice clips for analysis and are awaiting its results. "We are pursuing the complaint based on merits," said a senior police official.

Sources said the scope of the case will be limited to whether Vairam spoke or not.  If proved, another inquiry will be launched by the prisons department into the prevalence of mobile phone use among inmates.
