Khairatabad Ganesh to be immersed first, on September 15
New plan aimed to ease traffic congestion during processions; GHMC starts repair works.
Hyderabad: The Khairatabad Ganesh idol will be the first to be immersed this Ganesh festival, officials have said. Usually, the biggest idols go last.
The Ganesh immersion processions will begin at 2 pm on September 15. The fresh rule is because of the fact that the immersion of the Khairatabad idol takes at least 24 hours.
A meeting involving officials from the GHMC, the city traffic department and police was held on Wednesday. It was decided during the meet that talks will be held with the Khairatabad Ganesh samithi to discuss necessary arrangements to prevent a traffic nightmare lasting two days.
Also, the big idol’s immersion have to conclude as early as possible to make way for the smaller processions.
Potholes: Also, the GHMC has identified a total of 41,446 potholes along the Ganesh procession routes. Roads leading to major tanks too have potholes in them.
According to officials, the GHMC has already taken up repairs of these potholes and the Metro debris is being cleared too. The civic body will also take up the task of pruning trees along the major procession routes.
